Organised by St Ives Surf Life Saving Club, the St Ives Biathlon is quite a spectacle for visitors to St Ives. Competitors start in St Ives Harbour and run to Porthminster and then Carbis Bay beach. Here they enter the water and swim back to St Ives Harbour. The St Ives Biathlon is an annual event held in July and is based in St Ives and Carbis Bay. It consists of a 2 km run from St Ives Harbour to Porthminster beach and along the coastal path on to Carbis Bay beach. Here competitors undertake a 1.5km open swim back to St Ives Harbour.
This scenic event sees competitors tackle the challenging climb through St Ives then swim the open sea across the usually sheltered St Ives Bay.
The St Ives Biathlon is a great challenge for the serious athlete, and is a competition open to visitors to St Ives. All funds raised go towards the St Ives Surf Life Saving Club.
