Huers Hide is the perfect retreat for couples who wish to unwind ‘at home’ in beautiful coastal surroundings. Relax in the conservatory, outside on the terrace or just lie in bed watching the shifting sands as the tides drift across the almost deserted Porthkidney Sands; lookout for shoals of pilchards boiling on the surface of the sea. With the Cornish Coastal Path just a few steps from the front door it is ideal for walkers and with the West Cornwall Golf Club, and the ‘foodie’ haven of St. Ives, just minutes away by car, train or foot, Huers Hide is a destination not to be missed.
With views through the double doors and the conservatory to the bay beyond, this room offers a tranquil haven in which to curl up and relax on the double settee; read a book, listen to your music on the iPod/iPad docking station or watch a Video or DVD on the full surround sound Freeview HD ready plasma television. A back-lit corner unit houses some quirky findings from various holidays, whilst the cupboard under the TV is full of DVD’s, Videos and Games for those ‘Cornish Mizzle’ days. There is even a sewing machine if you’re feeling creative.
This is the perfect place for those leisurely breakfasts, long summer lunches and romantic dinners that are the key ingredients of a food-lovers holiday. With outstanding views across the bay to Godrevy lighthouse and even as far as Trevose Head it is also the ideal room to put your feet up and enjoy a restful afternoon with a gentle breeze blowing through the two sets of double doors that open out onto views of the gardens below and the adjacent private terrace. It has double doors leading from the lounge, and to the terrace, a flexible table that can easily be altered to suit the occasion – small for a drink or snack, larger for a full meal; another comfy double settee and a relaxing chair with footstool. The powerful telescope will help track those elusive dolphins and a distant group of people near Gwithian may even indicate the presence of a colony of seals.
Here you will find a built in heated cupboard for coats, sun loungers, clothes airer, torch, shopping bags and umbrellas; a shoe cupboard and a well stocked book case.
The light, sunny, spacious kitchen has everything you should need to make meal times an easy, stress free, enjoyable time. There is a fan oven with integrated grill and 4 ring gas hob with overhead extractor fan; a full combination oven, grill and microwave; a large integrated fridge; an under-counter built in freezer and a built in dishwasher. A toaster, blender, juicer and coffee maker are also provided along with numerous utensils, baking dishes, saucepans and a fish kettle. The assortment of cookery books should help inspire creative ways to mix the superb local produce with the selection of culinary herbs that grow in front of the kitchen window.
Sometimes, however it is nice to take a break from the kitchen and the abundant selection of restaurants in St Ives come highly recommended – check out the Welcome Guide for more information. The large extendable kitchen table houses 6 drawers including the essential ‘Kitchen Drawer’ with all the handy things you never believe you’ll need like notepads, pens, tape measure, scissors, sticky tape etc.
The washing machine is sympathetically housed in the bathroom, with cupboards above for the iron, clothes pegs etc.
With the same glorious sea views as from the conservatory you could stay in the kingsize bed all day. Side tables, with reading lights, and 3 double built-in wardrobes with drawers discreetly accommodate everything you have brought on holiday with you. There is also a full height mirror cupboard with adjacent shelves where the hairdryer is kept. To add to your comfort, you will also each find a pair of slippers and sleep-mask.
To one side of the bedroom there is a study area where you will find the wireless internet hub, UHD Internet enabled TV and a telephone which accepts incoming and emergency outgoing calls. A selection of stationery, ‘odds & sods’, various encyclopedias, dictionaries, maps and assorted tourist information can also be found here.
An outside door leads to the private terrace – a lovely place to soak up the sun.
The bathroom is fully tiled with a white toilet and matching spa bath with overhead Mira power shower and glass screen. There is a rail above the bath to hang dripping coats if you wish to enjoy a bracing walk in the pouring rain – or you are unlucky enough to have been caught in a downpour; and a heated towel rail to warm the selection of lovely thick towels, also provided. The fully built in basin has a demisting mirror above and 4 cupboards beneath offer plenty of storage – the location of a dual voltage shaver point, a couple of toothbrush chargers, a hot water bottle, a magnifying shaving mirror and the first-aid kit.
A large tiled work-surface allows for plenty of ‘bits and pieces’ and the washing machine is sympathetically housed with cupboards above for the iron, clothes pegs etc.
A selection of towels are provided for each guest.
Huers Hide not only has the advantage of a lovely bright conservatory but also the benefit of a private terrace accessed from both the conservatory and the bedroom – The addition of a built-in cupboard with a granite shelf, it is the ideal place to enjoy a BBQ, soak up the sun and make the most of the lovely view across St Ives Bay. Sun loungers are provided. The cupboard is also an ideal place to store muddy walking boots and Wellingtons.
Guests have unlimited use of the large well stocked communal gardens that can be reached via steps down from the terrace or from the car park. There are a couple of picnic tables, BBQ areas and grassy corners in which you can relax and soak up the view.
A washing line to the side of the gardens is also provided for the use of everyone at Sea Urchin.
Guests have the benefit of a space in the private car park although there is also room to unload/load directly outside the front door to Huers Hide.
Sea Urchin Apartments at the end of Headland Road, occupy perhaps one of the most stunning locations in West Cornwall, on the South West Coastal Path from Carbis Bay to Lelant.
Sea Urchin sits in an elevated position above Hawkes Point and Porth Kidney Sands. There is no passing traffic here – just walkers, artists and photographers all of whom are inspired by the panoramic views across St Ives Bay to Godrevy Lighthouse and beyond, which are bound to also inspire guests at Sea Urchin.
There are just 6 apartments in this unique development each having a space in the private car park which leads to the communal tropical gardens, a delightful area offering a further escape for guests, with a BBQ, picnic table and chairs to be enjoyed by all.

We especially loved the view from the bedroom and the conservatory. The personal touches were also appreciated."
“This was the third year that we have stayed in Huers Hide and as always it was brilliant. One could not ask for more. Thank you for providing such a wonderful place. Waking up to those stunning views is etched in our memories.”
“The accommodation was excellent, this is the fourth time we have stayed at this property and we are back again in October because we just love it.”
“Just returned from a week at Huers Hide and we enjoyed it so much that we have booked for next year! This was our first visit to Cornwall and we loved it! Carbis Bay is the perfect place to stay - very peaceful . Huers Hide has an amazing locations sitting high up and giving clear uninterrupted views over the huge (and mainly deserted) Porthkidney sands. We have never stayed anywhere as beautiful and as well equipped as Huers Hide. It is full of beautiful artefacts from around the world, along with everything you could possibly want during your holiday. The loungers were so comfortable that we are going to buy a pair for ourselves. I can't recommend Huers Hide highly enough. Carbis Bay Holidays made the booking, arrival and departure procedure very easy.”
"Huer's Hide a fantastic coastal hideaway, with stunning views, peace and quiet. And plenty to see and do if you want to."
"I just love Huers hide. This was my 3rd visit and I have it booked for two more trips next year. The accommodation has everything you could possibly want for the weeks stay and I enjoy all the art work and souvenirs that the owners have left in the property. This second trip for 2013 was a bit of a working holiday as I have a lot of graphics work to do at this time of year. What better place to work when you can enjoy such amazing views."
"Regarding our holiday at Huers Hide, we did indeed have a very pleasant time and the apartment fully lived up to its description. We had everything we needed and more. All the instructions prepared by the owners were very clear and easy to follow. We also appreciated the arrangement for the Food for your Holiday and the gift of the Cream Tea. We had a very pleasant walk around the pier at Hayle,as well as a very pleasant walk along Portreath beach. Another day we drove to Godrevy Head (a very visible landmark from Huers Hide).Another trip we enjoyed was the 300 Bus journey -can fully recommend that one. As the apartment was so comfortable we did not dine out much in the local area-we did however have a delicious meal at Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant in Padstow."
"We were very impressed with Huers Hide, it was up to our expectations, and everything to use was at hand. We loved the conservatory and spent many hours relaxing in there. Our favourite places to eat were the Cornwall Arms, also The Beach Restaurant in St Ives."

"Our stay at Huers Hide was as enjoyable, the property were excellent. We particularly enjoyed the food and service from Martin at the St Andrews Street Bistro and had 2 great meals at the Porthminster Café. I also enjoyed the golf course and stunning views at Treganna Castle ( a good par 3 course if you only have 2-3 hours to spare)."
"Huers Hide had everything you could ever need and more - the views were spectacular and it had real character and charm. It was beautifully clean and everything was conducive to a brilliant holiday. We visited the Eden project which was well worth it and went on local walks which we enjoyed immensely - we did not feel the need to go further afield as the walks on the doorstep of Huer's Hide were in themselves stunning."
"We had a wonderful holiday; quite our best in Carbis Bay. Undoubtedly this was due to the gem that is Huers Hide. Its thoughtful design and provisions were welcoming and so very thoughtful. Instant relaxation and retoration were the order of the day. The cleanliness, caretaker's contact, cream tea and abundant information at every turn were all truly excellent and much appreciated."
"We had a very enjoyable stay at Huers Hide it was one of the best properties that we have stayed in for facilities and comfort. The views of the bay are wonderful. We had a very good meal at The Wave restaurant which I would recommend but book in advance."
"We had a lovely time staying at Huers Hide, the accommodation was to a very high standard and we felt very relaxed staying there..we particularly loved sitting in the conservatory admiring the views. It was so lovely to wake up with the sunrise and the sound of the sea. The delivery of a 'cream tea' was a pleasant surprise and very welcome. There was everything and more in the accommodation that you could possibly need, it had been well thought out. We were given all the information we needed and the administration all went smoothly."
"We had an enjoyable stay at Huers Hide - what a fantastic spot and a marvellous apartment and I am sure we will return at some point."
"We really enjoyed our stay in Huers Hide, the apartment was amazing and cleanliness was first class. Everything you could possibly need was there. The bed was very comfortable, so much that we stayed in it and watched the sun rise some days. As for attractions we have been to most over the years so now we usually just do the coastal walks in and out of St Ives each day and have lunch in one the many restaurants there, this year we ate at Porthmeor Cafe, Ocean Grill, Cafe Coast, Balcony Bar, Beach Restaurant....all lovely food and wines. A good job we did so many miles on the coastal path to walk off all the food!"

"What's the first word we can say WOW! The apartment was everything it said on the website and more. The view was to die for The conservatory certainly made the apartment we spent most of our time in there. It was the best equipped self catering apatment we have ever stayed in.The interior was tastefully done comfortable and practical, the telescope was a bonus and proved fruitful as we spotted seals in the bay.The information in the apartment was very detailed and useful. The coastal path to St Ives is good walk very up and down but the views are definitely worth the effort. We ate at Mermaids in S Ives, Sea Food Cafe, both gave suberb meals. We visited St. Michaels Mount, Lands End the Eden Project and the Seal Sanctuary. Overall a great holiday we will return."

Huers Hide, a stunning place,
The views, the sea, the sky, the space.
Lapping waves caress the sand,
Soothing sounds float all around.
Opalescent glistening sea,
It is the only place to be.
Little specs across the bay,
Are people walking through the day.
A vast expanse of golden sands,
Where couples amble holding hands.
Breezes waft away your stresses,
Ruffling hair and blowing dresses.
Dipping toes in crystal blue,
Foaming edges hugging you.
The warmth embraces everyone,
You feel at peace the tensions gone.
Seagulls circle catching air,
Swooping down without a care.
Tiny boats bob on the sea,
A magical place for you and me.
