Halloween events for family holidays in Cornwall
Half term coincides with Halloween and, as always, this October is packed full of fun family events. There’s plenty to choose from including spooktakular events at Lappa Valley near Newquay, Halloweden at the Eden Project, the Halloween Disco at Paradise Park and the Trick or Treasure events at Pirate’s Quest, to name just a few.

Fantastic firework displays for family holidays in Cornwall
Depending on the dates of your child’s half term break, family holidays in Cornwall this half term may be perfectly timed with bonfire night celebrations. The Flambards Firework Spectacular is usually a bit earlier than bonfire night itself, and is one of the highlights of West Cornwall’s firework display calendar. The theme park has Halloween events happening during the week too. The Land’s End fireworks are another spectacular show in West Cornwall. Watch dazzling displays light up the night’s sky above the ocean.
Other local firework displays include Godrevy beach, Porthtowan beach, Heartlands near Redruth and the football ground in Penzance. You don’t have to travel too far from your St Ives cottage to see a wonderful display. There will be one above Carbis Bay beach and also the annual display on Porthminster beach in St Ives. You may be able to see them from your holiday cottage garden, or you can head down to the beach and get closer to the action. The weather in October can still be very mild and we may even be treated to a bit more sunshine. Even if it’s a bit chilly and drizzly, October is a great month for invigorating coastal walks, autumnal strolls in the woods and exploring cobbled streets and country lanes. But if it’s pouring with rain or just too cold to stay outside all day, a visit to one of Cornwall’s all weather attractions will keep all the family entertained.
Paradise Park is close to St Ives in the neighbouring seaside town of Hayle and offers plenty of fun for everyone. The park has exotic gardens to explore in between the rain showers, tropical birds, parrots and mammals to meet, a fun farm, jungle express train, indoor Jungle Barn play area and the Bird and Hand pub at the entrance of the park. Just 15 miles away in Helston you’ll find the Flambards Experience. Even if you’re not heading there for the Halloween activities or fireworks, there’s still an awful lot to explore. With more than 20 rides and attractions for all ages and the indoor Victorian Village and Britain in the Blitz attractions, there’s something for everyone.
Just over 30 miles away from St Ives there’s another fantastic family attraction called Dairyland Farmworld. Learn about the workings of a dairy farm and have lots of fun around the park. There’s the milking parlour, tractor house and nature trail as well as indoor and outdoor play areas for all ages, including adventure playgrounds, mini tractors, soft play and drop slides. Venture a bit further afield and a great day out awaits at the Eden Project. Explore the rainforest and Mediterranean biomes and discover fascinating species of plants, walk across the rainforest canopy walkway, find the giant bee, take part in adventure activities such as the giant zipline, climb the nest climbing frame and have lunch at the Med Terrace Cafe.
Family friendly restaurants
Porthminster Beach Cafe is a great family-friendly restaurant and is right on the doorstep of your St Ives holiday apartment. This award winning restaurant has uninterrupted views across St Ives Bay and is right on the beach so you can let the kids play on the sand whilst you wait for your food.
Kota Kai in Porthleven is a family-friendly restaurant with a children’s room where kids can enjoy themselves with toys, games and books while parents relax with a drink. Their brilliant Asian-fusion food is very tasty, they have a great children’s menu and the restaurant has a relaxed ambience.
The Old Coastguard‘s menu includes both toddlers’ and children’s menus, including child-friendly but grown up dishes. This seaside restaurant in Mousehole has a large outdoor area for children to run around in which overlooks the sea but is a safe environment so parents can relax.
There is also a selection of Cornish pubs and eateries that have children’s play areas. The Coppice in the nearby village of Lanner is a traditional family friendly pub with an adventure playground, ideal for the whole family to enjoy a meal while children burn off steam on the playpark. The Fort Inn in Newquay has both indoor and outdoor play areas for children and a children’s menu with quizzes, puzzles and colouring in activities.
The Games Room in Falmouth has snooker, pool, air hockey, table tennis and a selection of board games. Brewers Fayre restaurant in Hayle has a soft play area inside for the little ones and Country Skittles in Hayle has skittles, table football, air hockey, mini golf, darts and more.
