It’s the perfect activity for culture vulture couples and lovers of the arts. St Ives is home to a host of lovely local art galleries, as well as two nationally renowned ones.

Tate St Ives is bursting with evocative modern art, and hosts regular exhibitions and collections that will astound.

A trip to Tate St Ives makes a great Cornwall date idea, as some of the art will no doubt be an excellent conversation starter.

The Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden is a permanent exhibition of local artist, Barbara Hepworth. Admire her striking and large sculptures, inspired by the natural world. Perfect for some cute photo opportunities too!

Take a romantic stroll along the beach

Porthminster Beach in St Ives.

It wouldn’t be a list of romantic things to do in Cornwall without a suggestion of a beach walk! Especially considering St Ives is known for its pristine and picturesque sands.

Stroll hand in hand along the sands of Porthminster Beach, beginning at the Porthminster Point end. Carry on up towards St Ives Harbour Beach, and continue around St Ives Head if you want a longer walk.

Wine and dine by the beach

Seafood platter.

One of the best things about St Ives’ beaches? The numerous beachside restaurants with spectacular views of the sand and sea.

Take your love to The Rum & Crab Shack, a local foodie favourite. Here you can share a romantic seafood platter and get stuck into some fresh and tasty claws!

Other culinary hotspots on the beachfront include Talay Thai Kitchen, Beach Café Bar, and Porthminster Kitchen.

Catch a memorable sunset

Silhouette of a couple watching a sunset on the coast.

This is one of the simplest things to do in Cornwall for couples, but definitely one of the most romantic.

Catch a dreamy sunset from one of the many scenic locations along St Ives’ coast.

We think the best spot to take in the sun’s last rays for the day is St Ives Head. This little headland is home to St Nicholas’ Chapel.

Walk up here and perch somewhere off the path or on one of the benches and watch the natural beauty before you, and the sunset!

Embark on an epic adventure activity together

Couple kayaking in the sea.

We think some of the best things to do in Cornwall for couples are the activities that get the adrenaline pumping!

St Ives, and Cornwall in general, is a fantastic hub of adventure sports and pursuits.

One of the more thrilling activities is coasteering. Kernow Coasteering in West Cornwall offers coasteering in St Ives, Penzance and Praa Sands.

Coasteering involves getting from A to B along the coast via swimming, climbing, scrambling, rock-hopping and even cliff-jumping!

If you’re looking for a tamer Cornwall date idea, then why not head out on a kayaking trip instead? Take a leisurely paddle around the harbour and see the picturesque coastal town from the water.

Cornish pasty picnic along the coast

St Ives has many lovely bakeries where you can find delicious Cornish pasties.

Pick an array of local delights from the likes of St Ives Bakery, Pengenna Pasties or Warren’s Bakery. With your lunch safely sorted, set out on a jaunt along the South West Coast Path in search of a scenic picnic spot.

We recommend walking westward to Seal Island, around 3.5 miles from St Ives. As you can imagine, this small, rocky inshore island is home to a cute colony of Atlantic grey seals.

Set up your picnic here and take turns with the binoculars to spy on these sweet sea dogs!

Travel the St Ives Rail Ale Trail

Couple enjoying beer in a pub.

This is definitely one of the best things to do in St Ives for couples who enjoy a drink or two!

Use the St Ives Bay Line to sample delicious and local ales from all around West Cornwall. Purchase an Off-Peak Day Return ticket between St Ives and Penzance and hop on and off as you visit each pub.

You can even download and print a stamp sheet each and get a special stamp from each pub you visit. Once you’ve reached 10 stamps, you can send it off along with your train ticket to Rail Ale Trail to receive a free t-shirt!

The perfect souvenir for your St Ives holiday.
